NY Times Article About Transforming Work

Simple tweaks can lead to big changes. It’s true as true for the physics of weather as it is for how we operate at work.

A 2013 Gallup poll shows that a mere 30% os us feel engaged at work. That’s why so many happy hours revolve around complaining about how sucky work is. Sound like a blast? Not so much.

The good news is, all that misery is just not necessary. Under the right conditions, with commitment from leadership, the culture can be totally transformed. If your company isn’t willing to do that, it might be time to look around for a new opportunity.

A few of the keys to real flourishing at work are:

  • Doing what you’re good at
  • Having basic human needs covered
  • Having time to unplug
  • Regular exercise
  • Meditation and mindfulness practices
